The CRSD requires companies to report on sustainability information, based on the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). This means that companies must report on information on three topics: environmental, social and governance (ESG). This could, for example, concern CO2 emissions, male-female distribution at the top or administrative ethics. The CSRD is the legislative title, while the ESRS-guideline is the name of the standards that must actually be reported on.
In 2025, the first listed companies (which previously reported on the NFRD) must report for 2024. These companies are already obliged to include more limited criteria in a sustainability report. Although listed and large companies are the first to report on sustainability, other organizations and institutions such as healthcare organizations, housing associations and small companies are just as likely to have to deal with the CSRD because they are chain partners or suppliers.
Reporting is now done under the Non-financial Reporting Directive (NFRD). The CSRD replaces the NFRD and adds certainty through the mandatory audit of the sustainability information by an independent party, such as an accountant. The CSRD expands the scope of reporting to more companies. It also introduces more extensive reporting requirements. It also aims to improve digital reporting through the use of a single electronic format for sustainability information.
Our services
For many companies, the CSRD means that they must draw up or update a sustainability strategy. On this basis, the right KPIs, processes and systems must be set up to achieve the sustainability objectives. Since this must be reported in the annual report, the company must collect the correct data. This way, the quality of that data is guaranteed. For the group of companies that only have to report on 2025 in 2026, it is wise to start anyway, even if you know where you stand and what steps you still have to take.
Through our collaboration with Dutch Carbon Consultants, we can offer you a full service in the field of CSRD and ESG. Consider calculating the CO2 footprint or guiding your company with certification on the CO2 performance ladder. We are able to calculate the environmental impact of your product or service over its entire lifespan and throughout the chain. This ‘life-cycle analysis’ ensures that the impact of products can be effectively compared, in order to make a well-founded decision.
You can also contact us for a CSRD readiness check and a CSRD implementation process. During a CSRD readiness check, we use the ESRSs and ESG to determine to what extent your organization is already ready for the CSRD. We express this as a percentage of 0-100 of the work still to be expected.
During the implementation, we fully assist you in implementing, fleshing out and drawing up sustainability reports in line with the CSRD. This way you can be sure that everything goes well!
